Ayr driving instructor's car stolen by drunk grandson

A DRIVING instructor had his car stolen by his boozed-up grandson.

Steven McLaughlin – a learner driver – was more than three times the limit when he took the car from Ayr’s Mossgiel Road.

The 19-year-old, who had been getting lessons from his grandfather, won’t pass his test for a while – he faces a lengthy ban.

At Ayr Sheriff Court this week, McLaughlin pleaded guilty to drink driving, taking a car without the owners consent and driving with a provisional licence on January 3 this year.

His not guilty plea to driving with no insurance was accepted by prosecutors.

Sheriff Colin Miller deferred sentence of McLaughlin, of Mossgiel Road, for reports.
