Ayr police chase driver warned he faces jail

A DANGER driver who led police on a high-speed chase has been warned he faces jail.

Cocky Andrew Russell ignored police requests to stop his car as he whizzed around streets of Ayr and Prestwick.

He jumped traffic lights, crossed lanes when he went round a roundabout at high speed and forced other cars to swerve out of his path.

At Ayr Sheriff Court this week, Russell admitted the stunt.

And when a sheriff looked at the lengthy charge, he warned: “When I see this complaint the first word that comes into my head is Bowhouse.”

Russell pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on July 3 last year.

On various streets, including John Street, Allison Street, Wagon Road, Weir Road, Saltpans Road, East Road and Heathfield Road he drove at excessive speed, failed to stop when signalled, navigate a roundabout at high speed, crossed lanes, forced other vehicles to take evasive action, weaved between lanes overtaking and undertaking other vehicles, failed to comply with a set of red traffic lights and travelled at speeds in excess of the speed limit.

Russell, who has two minor convictions, will be back in court next month.

Sheriff Colin Miller deferred sentence on the 35-year-old, of Finlas Avenue in Ayr, for background reports.
