A STUDENT beat up his classmate when he took offence to a remark made about a disabled person.
Connor Mackay kicked and punched the young man in front of horrified fellow students.
At Ayr Sheriff Court this week, depute fiscal Maureen Mullan told Sheriff John Montgomery that Mackay and the victim were in a classroom at Ayr College at around 9.40am on November 23.
The victim made an offensive remark and Mackay, 18, launched himself at him and repeatedly punched him on the head while he sat at his desk.
Then Mackay kicked him in the ribs and left the college.
An ambulance was called for the battered victim who was rushed to Ayr Hospital for a check up.
When he was interviewed by police, Mackay told officers he just lost it.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of assault to injury.
Mackay, of Irvine, represented himself in court.
He told Sheriff Montgomery: "I thought it was a bit shady that he made that comment about a disabled person."
Sheriff Montgomery warned Mackay he couldn't behave in that fashion no matter how offended he was.
Sentence was deferred on Mackay for six months for him to be of good behaviour.
