Woodroad Park set for centre

WOODROAD Park is set for a community centre.

The rundown park in Cumnock will boast the state-of-the-art facility as part of its regeneration.

Councillors gave the thumbs up to Woodroad Regeneration Forum’s request last week.

It means the former cafe building in the park will be torn down and replaced by the bigger and better community centre.

The two floor facility will include a creche, coffee shop, soft play area, games area, first aid room and office suite. The development will also include car parking for 82 cars on the site of the former swimming pool.

In a report to councillors, Alan Neish, head of planning and economic development, said: “The development will compliment the existing projects already delivered within the park, providing the elements of indoor sporting activities while encouraging community use for a wider range of facilities.

“It will also result in the demolition of the existing dilapidated pavilion block within the site.”

The boost comes weeks after the Woodroad Regeneration Forum scooped the best local charity award.

In 2007, the charity was set up to breathe life back into the deprived area of Cumnock by restoring the popular park.
