A HUSBAND broke down in the dock as a court heard how he attacked his wife’s lover.
John Barr, 31, knocked his former friend Campbell McLeod off his feet when he punched him.
The early evening attack happened when Barr came across his wife with McLeod in Ayr town centre.
Depute fiscal Hayley Robertson told the court that the attack happened outside Kando bar in Fort Street at 6.30pm on August 2 this year.
Mrs Robertson told the court that Kimberley Barr and Campbell McLeod were standing outside Kando looking at the menu.
Barr emerged from the pub and after an argument with McLeod he punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.
Defence lawyer Lynn Jeffrey told Sheriff Colin Miller that Barr and McLeod used to be friends.
But he started an affair with Kimberley Barr and the married couple separated.
On the day of the attack, Barr insists McLeod was winding him up.
Ms Jeffrey told the court: “Mr Barr felt that the relationship was being flaunted in front of him. Mr McLeod was smiling in the window at him.
“Mr Barr went outside to ask why the couple were rubbing his nose in it.”
Ms Jeffrey went on to say that relations between the couple are much more calm now and access arrangements are now in place for their son.
Sheriff Miller fined Barr, of Drongan, £300.
