Drunk bombards provident woman with abuse

A DRUNK sent dozens of abusive texts to his Provident agent.

Peter Hogg left the woman terrified when he bombarded her mobile phone with the messages.

The quick thinking woman only found out who he was after trawling through her contact book of customers.

At Ayr Sheriff Court this week, Hogg, 33, admitted sending the messages.

He pleased guilty to sending grossly offensive, indecent or obscene text messages of a menacing character to the woman, threatening her and using indecent language.

Hogg sent the messages from his home at Ayr’s Stonecrop Place on August 29 this year.

A depute fiscal told Sheriff John Montgomery that the victim is employed as an agent for the Provident Personal Credit company.

From 4pm, the woman received 21 texts.

She was very alarmed and text back asking who it was.

Hogg replied that he was “coming to get her.”

When she went through her customer contact book, she discovered Hogg was the sender.

He went on to send her a further 31 text messages of a similar nature until the woman contacted police.

Defence lawyer Peter Lockhart told the court his client has an alcohol problem.

Hogg has previous convictions under the Misuse of Drugs Act and a breach of the peace.

Sheriff Montgomery deferred sentence for background reports.
