WAR veterans have their very own champion in South Ayrshire.
Provost Winnie Sloan will represent their interests on a Scottish Parliamentary cross party working group.
She said: “Becoming a veterans’ champion is a great honour for me, and I am absolutely delighted to accept the nomination.”
Provost Sloan, a long time supporter of the armed forces, will represent all three services.
And she insists that she’ll go all out to ensure that their voices are heard.
She added: “The welfare of local men and women who have served our country is a subject very close to my heart.
“I will use the opportunity to develop their interests in South Ayrshire, with the support of the cross party group.
“I will be working to develop an in-depth knowledge on the issues affecting our veterans, to advance their interests locally and nationally, and to be a public advocate for them in South Ayrshire.
“This will include assessing the effect that council decisions and policies might have on veterans or their families, and to ensure we understand new guidance on veterans, making sure it is implemented effectively.”
