WORK has been delayed at Turner’s Brig again.
Poor weather means that the £230,000 refurbishment of the landmark bridge won’t be finished until the end of November.
It’s the second major setback to the project, which was supposed finish in October.
And South Ayrshire Council’s environment spokesman Councillor Peter Convery explained that this time the weather is to blame.
He said: “I know that the public would like the bridge open as soon as possible and so would the council.
“However, the refurbishment has to be carried out properly and at this time of the year the weather is causing some delays.
“I would like to thank the public for their understanding and cooperation. I know that the bridge is a landmark known to many, it is well used by local people and that is why it is crucial that the work is carried out to the highest possible standard.”
The refurbishment includes repairing and replacement of steelwork, partial replacement of the concrete deck slabs, new parapet mesh panels, improved lighting and the installation of anti-slip surfaces.
Notices have been erected around the bridge and in the neighbouring high flats to keep the public up-to-date.
