Shed go-ahead

A SHED can go up at the Craigie Allotment gardens in Ayr – despite the objection of a top council officer.

Karen McLure, South Ayrshire’s senior parks and landscape strategy office, believes the shed could ‘set an undesirable precedent’.

She says it could cause shade on a neighbouring allotment, and over time it could fall into disrepair.

Mrs McLure is also concerned about safety, as other allotment holders could be hidden from view.

And she points out that a communal shed is available to all plot holders.

Mrs McLure’s concerns were the only ones raised about the shed.

A planning report says a corrugated structure previously stood on the site.

And there are no planning reasons to turn down a new structure.

The council owns the land at Craigie which is leased out as individual allotments.

Councillors gave the go-ahead for the shed for a five-year period.
