New South Ayrshire bureau is planned

SOUTH AYRSHIRE looks set for a Citizens Advice Bureau.

There is no such outlet in the area so far.

And Brian Donohoe MP is delighted at the prospect.

He said: “Myself and councillor Helen Moonie have been pushing for this to happen for some time now.

“I have always found it hard to believe there is not one office for the Citizens Advice Bureau in the whole of South Ayrshire.”

The head of community development for the council has been appointed to action the establishment of a CAB outlet.

They have always opposed suggestions for an office, but seem to have made a U-turn – a development Mr Donohoe thinks is down to the recession.

He added: “It is about time the people of South Ayrshire were given every opportunity to be able to procure the best possible advice out there, and I believe CAB are the best people for that purpose.

“Now that South Ayrshire Council have seen sense, I am sure they will realise the benefits of having a CAB office, the major benefit being that the people of South Ayrshire will now be able to gain advice about the many and diverse problems experienced in the current economic downturn.”

The MP has already looked into where he thinks would benefit most from a CAB office.

Mr Donohoe concluded: “I feel this establishment would be best placed in Prestwick, as it seems to be the worst hit part of South Ayrshire within my constituency, with job losses at the airport coupled with increasing debt experienced by those getting caught up in other facets of the recession. I will be writing to Roddy MacDonald to suggest this.”
