Charities hit by cut in grants

CHARITIES in Ayrshire will lose out on thousands of pounds due to the banking crisis.

The Lloyds TSB Foundation has torpedoed all its charitable grants in Scotland for the foreseeable future.

Brian Donohoe has expressed his dismay at the announcement.

He has worked hard over the years to attract as many charitable donations into Ayrshire as possible.

He said: “As I understand it, they have frozen their grant operation as a direct result of the trouble faced by the Lloyds Banking Group – their parent organisation.

“Lloyds TSB, in line with the other banks who benefited from massive financial help from the government earlier this year, has been reining in bonuses for staff, which is only right.

“However, I am concerned that this charitable work seems to have become one of the other causalities.”
