CCTV shows stab duo buying knives
A PAIR of yobs were caught on CCTV buying knives moments before they launched a bloody broad daylight attack.
Lyndsay Cooper and John Thomson purchased the blades in Girvan’s Asda store at 6pm on July 28.
Minutes later, the pair plunged their weapons into Thomas Vennard Sr and Thomas Vennard Jr in Vicarton Street.
At Ayr Sheriff Court this week, Thomson, 33, admitted attacking Mr Vennard Sr.
Cooper, 26, pleaded guilty to the assault on Mr Vennard Jr.
Depute fiscal Victoria Hart told Sheriff Colin Miller that the four had arranged to meet each other to discuss an alleged attack on Margaret Vennard, the sister and daughter of the victims.
Mrs Hart went on to tell the court that when Thomson and Cooper arrived they produced the knives and started attacking the men.
Both victims were rushed by ambulance to Ayr Hospital.
Mr Vennard Sr sustained a 4cm stab wound to his chest, as well as a knife slash across his face.
Mr Vennard Jr had a cut to his head and a 10cm wound to his upper right arm. He required two operations in the following days and now suffers numbness from his elbow to his wrist.
Mrs Hart added: “The complainers were asked if they were in possession of any weapons – both denied that.
“But a number of items were recovered shortly following the incident, including a hedge clipper blade and a large carving fork. However, there is no evidence to suggest where they came from.”
Sheriff Colin Miller deferred sentences while reports on the pair are prepared.
They were remanded in custody.
