ANOTHER ceremony is planned to honour local veterans of the armed forces.
After eligibility for veterans’ badges was extended in 2006, regular ceremonies were held in Ayrshire at which badges were presented by the Lord Lieutenant, 30 or so at a time.
Central Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe said: “In recent months, veterans have not been coming forward in such numbers, so badges have been sent in the post. However, that does not do justice to them.
“So I am proposing that we hold a special ceremony next April, when the Lord Lieutenant – on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen – can make the presentations official and mark the achievements of these men and women in the way that I believe they deserve.”
