THEY’RE hoodies with goodies and are determined to do their bit to help OAPs in their community.
For Robert Hamilton, Stephen Fitzsimons and Kyra Robertson got on their bikes to deliver shopping to the elderly.
The Mossblown kids are taking part in a scheme to help out their neighbours at weekends.
They’re given shopping lists by pensioners living in the village sheltered housing complex every Saturday and Sunday.
Once they’ve done the shopping, Robert, Stephen and Kyra then deliver it using bikes with trailers provided by South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership.
One of the youngsters explained: “We called ourselves hoodies with goodies and we hope other people saw that young people can do a lot of good in the community.
“One of the best bits was the shops did a deal with us to give the shopping at cost price, so we could save the residents money too.
“That went down well with everyone.”
And their effort has won them praise from partnership chairman Councillor Nan McFarlane.
She said: “Full marks to the young people for providing such a great service to the residents.
“Many of the older people find it difficult to get out and about and this has been a real success story for all concerned.”
Councillor McFarlane revealed that the trio are also helping their new friends learn basic computer skills.
She added: “I understand that the elderly people in the sheltered housing unit have recently purchased some computers and the young people have also been busy teaching basic computer skills to the elderly people, helping to bring the young and old together in this small community.”
