THE NEW senior cadet and RSM for The West Lowland Battalion Army Cadet Force is 17-year-old Sergeant Major Karl Matley from Newton Stewart, who takes over the role from John Kitchen of Maybole.
John, a cadet in the Belmont detachment, had held the post for the past year but has now moved on from the Army Cadet Force as he is overage.
He hopes to return in the future as an adult instructor.
John said: “I had a great time in the Army Cadet Force and have many fond memories. I was lucky enough to attend seven annual camps from Cultybraggan in Perthshire to Penally in south-west Wales.
“Being Cadet RSM was a great honour, one that every cadet should strive for.”
