A BLOCKED pipe which caused sewage leaks in a Prestwick street has been cleared, Scottish Water has confirmed.
Resident Andrew Fraser was shocked to see sewage discharging from a manhole cover, following heavy rain in August.
And he waged a six-week campaign to get the matter dealt with.
Now Scottish Water says it has ‘vactored a stretch of about 100m of the pipe’ in Grangemuir Road within the past week.
Mark Templeton, acting regional manager, said this week: “We cleared the blockage in the pipe in Grangemuir Road and removed a significant amount of silt which had built-up over a period of time.
“Waste water had spilled out of a combined sewer manhole in the street on two occasions on the same weekend during very heavy rainfall, and the build-up of silt was a contributory factor.”
The company points out it attended at the time of the original discharge to clean up the area.
