Firewalk challenge at Heads of Ayr

DAREDEVILS will walk barefoot across hot coals for a charity fundraiser with a difference.

Up to 100 people will take part in the firewalk challenge at the Heads of Ayr next month.

It’s all in aid of the Allister Boyd Kilimanjaro Trek, with dad Robert leading the charge.

He revealed: “We reckon this will be the biggest ever firewalk in the west of Scotland.

“It’s totally safe to do and although you might get the odd blister, it’s more than worth it for the feeling of achievement at the end.”

Those brave enough to step up will firewalk across a heat of almost 800 degrees fahrenheit.

The event, run by professional company Soulfire, takes two hours of mental preparation before the actual walk.

Robert, 56, explained: “Apparently you’re taken to a place in your mind where you believe you’re capable of doing things you never thought possible.

“That’s when you head out and tackle the firewalk. Some people even come back for a second go because they feel so good.

“It’s all mind over matter and is great for proving that you can do anything you want to.

“I wanted to come up with something different for raising money and I think I’ve managed to find it with this.”

Robert’s son Allister tragically lost his brave battle with cancer – but not before raising thousands for charity.

The funds are continuing to pour in ahead of next year’s big trek up Kilimanjaro, with cash raised from the firewalk going towards that trip.

Robert revealed: “We’ve had a huge deal of interest so far and over 50 people have signed up for the firewalk.

“We hope to have around 100 on the night so it should be great.”
