Drugs dumped where kids play

SCORES of methadone bottles were dumped in a lane near where children play.

About 20 bottles – many of them smashed – were abandoned in a lane near Ayr’s James Brown Ave.

Furious residents of the area contacted the Ayrshire Post to alert us to the dangerous littering.

Many of the prescription labels on the bottles had different names on them.

One mum said: “It’s a disgrace. My kids are due back from school but I won’t be letting them out to play while those bottles are there. It’s too dangerous. Kids as young as three play out there.

“We contacted the council last Monday morning but we felt they really weren’t interested.

“The bottles have different name labels on them so we thought they would be uplifted immediately because that’s quite sensitive information.

“They said they would be uplifted by 2pm last Tuesday. But at the end of the week they were still there.”

However, a council spokesperson confirmed that the bottles were uplifted by Monday.

But they would not confirm whether the matter had been reported to police.

The spokesperson said: “South Ayrshire Council is very concerned to learn of this incident. All waste should be disposed of responsibly.

“Waste materials left out for uplift in the appropriate places are removed. If waste materials are left in other areas they may not be uplifted immediatelyas the council may not know about them.

“Where there are any concerns over waste material, the matter will be reported to senior officers and if appropriate, information will be passed on to other agencies.”
