TWELVE South Ayrshire S4 pupils are taking part in Work Out! – a 22-week pilot vocational training programme.
And they helped Councillor Hywel Davies launch it at County Buildings in Ayr.
Work Out! is part of the South Ayrshire Council’s youth employability initiative.
It supports the council’s commitment to providing young people with development opportunities through work experience.
The 12 pupils piloting the scheme are all from Belmont Academy in Ayr.
And they will take part in a range of work experience placements in jobs including administration, leisure services, greenkeeping, grounds maintenance, child care and catering.
Councillor Davies is South Ayrshire Council’s Lifelong Learning portfolio holder.
And after meeting the young people taking part, he said: “Work Out! is a very exciting pilot programme, which supports national and local government objectives to ensure that our young people are successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.
“The skills they will acquire working with their peers and others at various establishments and locations across South Ayrshire will be invaluable.
“Going out into the world and experiencing the reality of working, as part of an accredited planned training plan, is a great opportunity.”
All the pupils will work towards a National Progression Award in employability and enterprise, which is certificated by SQA.
