A NEW £3.5 million housing development could be set for Tarbolton.
Ayrshire Housing has submitted a planning application for the affordable rent properties.
The two, three and four bedroom ‘lifetime’ homes would be located in the village’s Croft Street.
And each property has been designed with a flexible lay-out, while four will be fully wheelchair accessible.
The development forms part of a larger scheme by private house builder, Hope Homes.
Steve McGhee, partner with designers Lawrence McPherson Associates, said: “South Ayrshire Council has identified Tarbolton as a priority area and it is hoped this development will form part of wider plans to regenerate the area with new housing and amenities.
“One of the big challenges of this development will be providing an alternative low carbon design solution as Tarbolton is not serviced by a natural gas supply; a challenge we are looking forward to.”
If planning is successful, building work is likely to start next spring, with completion scheduled for 2011.
Tarbolton is one of three communities in Ayrshire taking part in a placemaking project bringing together the community and local agencies to help re-create a new heart for the village.
A relatively new idea which has been imported from the United States, it is being pioneered in this country by Greenspace Scotland.
Lawrence McPherson Associates, is the largest architectural and town planning practice in Ayrshire.
They recently created the £4.5m affordable housing project in Cumnock’s Kings Way.
