Charity boxing event set to be a knockout

IT’S the heavyweight clash Ayrshire is talking about.

And political big mouth Tommy Sheridan could finally have met his match.

The former MSP is stepping into the ring to face an Ayr businessman for a charity fight with a difference.

Sheridan puts his celebrity boxing title on the line against Brian Armour this month.

The pair go toe to toe at Ayr Racecourse in aid of CLIC Sargent – and Armour is predicting fireworks.

He insisted: “Tommy is a decent fighter and I’ve been watching videos of him in action.

“But I’m certainly not scared of him and I’m definitely looking forward to this.

“He won’t be putting me down, that’s for sure, and the least I’d expect is to go the distance.

“I’ve got a big support coming down on the night, and hopefully that will help make the difference.”

Brian, 42, has been training under the watchful eye of Sam Mullen at Doon Valley Boxing Club.

The clash with Sheridan is scheduled over three rounds, with each lasting two minutes.

And Brian believes the tale of the tape is firmly in his favour.

He revealed: “I’m two stone lighter than Sheridan and also taller, so I’ve got a couple of advantages.

“I’m 42 and physically fit anyway, but training for this has given me an appreciation of the skill level these boxers have.

“I’m taking it seriously and want to win, but at the same time I know it’s all in a good cause.

“CLIC Sargent is a great charity and the night is hopefully going to raise a lot of money for them.

“One of my mates said he would sponsor my boots – as long as he could get his name on my soles.”

Brian, an undertaker to trade, clashes with Sheridan on Saturday, October 24.

Ticket packages are available by calling May Gilchrist at Malcolm Sargent House on 01292 692113.

She admitted: “I can’t wait for the fight – we’re all rooting for Brian and it looks like being a great night for the charity.

“All of the funds will go towards the Allister Boyd Kilimanjaro Trek, so it’s going to be a very worthwhile evening.

“I love my sports and I’ll be ringside for the fight – I wouldn’t miss this for the world.”
