GRANNY Phyllis Scott had 20 years worth of hair growth lopped off for charity last Saturday in busy Debenham’s Ayr store.
She wasn’t at all phased by the scissors being wielded by the Rainbow Room’s Chantel Quinn but was more apprehensive about the crowds who gathered to cheer her on and watch the deed being done.
Instead of costing cash this haircut has already raised over £600.
Phyllis, 62, a sales assistant in womenswear at Debenhams, got the idea for the fundraiser when she decided she wanted to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care in memory of her late mum who died from cancer.
Deputy store manager Gail McGivern explained: “Every September we raise funds for the Retail Trust but this hair cut fundraiser was Phyllis’s idea.
“We were delighted to agree to give around 60 per cent of all proceeds of what we raise to Marie Curie Cancer Care and the remainder to the Retail Trust from the various events that we are doing.
“Already, we have over £1,000 and money is still coming in.”
Phyllis, of Girvan, hadn’t had her locks cut since her daughter’s wedding 20 years ago but is very pleased with her new look.
