Apologies from staff of charity shop

ON behalf of all the volunteers at Mary’s Meals SIR Bookshop on Newmarket Street in Ayr, I would like to apologise to our loyal customers for the abrupt closure of the shop.

When we were called to an evening meeting last Thursday with multi-award winning charity head Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, we had no idea that the result would be immediate closure.

We are all shocked, angry and disappointed at the decision and the way it was administered, particularly as takings were up and could have been much better had we been allowed to open on Sundays, as we’d begged to be allowed for a long time.

If you've hiked down the High Street with heavy bags of books for us, or called by to collect books we’d put aside for you, please accept our sincere apologies.

The bookshop was a great place to volunteer in and to visit and will be a great loss to the town.

Can I also take this opportunity to thank Chris Moorhouse and Jean Brittain before him, two wonderful managers, who made the bookshop such a welcoming place and a pleasure to spend time in.

Thank you all for your support. We'll miss you!
