COLLEGE chefs from Ayr are ready to take on the world.
Iona Kan and Stuart Ritchie have qualified to represent Scotland in a world cup of cooking in America.
The duo will jet out to the States next month aiming to become the globe’s top junior chefs.
They beat off the challenge of fellow chefs from around the country to win the Scottish heat.
Now they can’t wait to hit Michigan and bring home the world title.
Ayr College lecturer Norman Robertson revealed: “We are absolutely delighted to be representing Scotland in this international competition.
“It will give Iona and Stuart a great opportunity not just to compete overseas, but to spend time and share experiences with the other young chefs from around the world.”
The triumph continues the success story for Ayr College and its all-conquering catering team.
Iona and Stuart hit the spot with judges by creating a three-course supper in just 90 minutes.
They then completed an interview with the culinary kings and queens to secure their place on the flight across the Atlantic.
In three days of competition they will face four mystery basket competitions, and finally prepare a course at a culinary banquet for the international judges panel and guests.
The Scottish national heats of the competition were organised and supported by the Federation of Chefs in Scotland.
President Kevin MacGillivray said: “One of our aims is to give young people working in the industry the opportunity to have unique learning experiences both at home and abroad.
“The format of the Nations Cup means that it is so much more than just a competition.
“These young chefs will learn new skills and develop good relationships with other young chefs from across the globe.”
