Troon plumber invents new boiler

A TROON plumber has invented a water boiler that looks set to change to world.

David Osborne developed the Jompy boiler in his spare time.

And now he is preparing to jet to Africa to sell the invention at the continent’s biggest agricultural fair.

The Jompy works by taking in cold water through one pipe and swirling it around tightly coiled copper piping placed on a fire before sending the steaming hot water out of another pipe.

And while the Jompy is working, the coiled piping can be used like an oven ring.

David, 35, explained: “The Jompy takes the cultural norm of heating water in a pan over a fire, and significantly speeds up the process.

“By boiling water around four times quicker than traditional methods, it will enable households to use their fuel more efficiently, ultimately reducing household wood smoke and positively impacting on the environment.

“Plus the solar attachment is a way to introduce the concept of renewable energy to very traditional, conservative communities who may be resistant to abandoning the age-old tried and tested ways.”

David will head out to Kenya next month to showcase the Jompy at the Nairobi International Trade Fair.

The event will bring together the biggest commercial farmers in Africa, as well as the smallest peasant farmers.

He continued: “The initial response has been excellent. This weekend, one of our partners in Nakuru in Kenya arranged a demonstration of the Jompy at a local church and they were literally selling like hot cakes.

“The Trade Fair is an opportunity to demonstrate this genuine grassroots market and take the Jompy to the next national and international levels.

“We are also currently speaking to the International Red Cross regarding the Jompy’s potential as a means of enabling unsure or unsafe water to be boiled to safe consumption levels.”

It’s not the first time David has used his experience and skills to create an innovative product.

Last year, David invented a solar powered water heater.

The heater allowed the world’s poorest people to heat water enough to wash and clean with.

But now, David has surpassed himself by creating the Jompy, which makes water hot enough for consumption.
