Rise in number of NHS dentists in Ayrshire

THE number of NHS dentists in Ayrshire has risen by 26 per cent in three years.

And hundreds more children have been registered with dentists.

In 2007, 3094 three to five year olds were registered. Now, there are 3576.

Adam Ingram MSP has expressed his delight at the figures.

Mr Ingram said: "It's great to see that we now have 80 per cent of three to five year olds registered with an NHS dentist.

"It is well known that children who get into good oral hygiene habits early on are much more likely to continue these into later life.

"With more patients being registered and more dentists being employed, our dental care shame is steadily being consigned to the history books."
