SHE’S been growing her hair for 20 years.
But daring Phyllis Scott will chop off the treasured locks which hang past her knees.
The Girvan granny is going the whole hog to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
And the barnet, which hasn’t seen a pair of scissors in two decades, will be no more.
Phyllis, who works as a sales advisor for Ayr’s Debenhams, laughed: “The girls in here are really excited about it.
“They can’t wait to see me without the hair, but I keep telling them it’s hardly plastic surgery.
“I’ll still be old and ugly – just with shorter hair.”
Phyllis will go under the scissors in memory of her late mum, who passed away from cancer.
And she admits the lengthy locks have always drawn a chuckle – especially from her nearest and dearest.
Phyllis, 62, confessed: “My mum was forever asking me when I was getting my hair cut.
“And my son-in-law constantly jokes about it – he once referred to it as a bush. So it’s all good fun.
“But I haven’t had it properly cut since my daughter’s wedding 20 years ago, and now I’ll actually have to do some work on it every morning.
“At the moment, it just takes me two minutes to whip it up in a bun and away I go.”
Phyllis and her flowing locks meet their end in the Debenhams store at 3pm on Saturday, September 26.
