Five South Ayrshire premises hit by booze ban

FIVE premises in South Ayrshire are no longer selling booze.

They ushered in new licensing laws earlier this month without having a premises manager in place.

That means the sale of alcohol is now outlawed in each property.

The former Minishant Tandoori, Ayr Greyhound Stadium, Kildonan Hotel, Pumpernickel in Ayr’s Newmarket Street and Barr Stores can no longer sell drink.

New laws, which came into force on Tuesday, September 1, require licensed premises to have a licence to sell alcohol and to have a premises manager who, in turn, must hold a personal licence.

But the aforementioned properties saw the deadline come and go without having a manager nominated.

Should they wish, they can make a future application to put a licensing manager in place.

South Ayrshire’s licensing board chairman Douglas Campbell believes the transition to the new law has been a success.

He said: “I’d like to congratulate the licensing staff for all their excellent work in the lead up to the law changing, as they have made the transition to the new regime smooth and efficient.

“Strathclyde Police also deserve a big thank you for the support they have given.”

Police have been made aware of the list of premises who do not meet the legal requirements.
