Fishing boat captain charged with drink sailing

THE captain of a fishing boat that had to be rescued when it ran aground on rocks has been charged with drink-sailing.

The 50-year-old Ayr man will appear in court next month.

It comes after the Honeybourn 3 trawler became stranded on the coast north of Filey on Sunday.

Its seven crew were rescued by local lifeboat and coastguard teams from Filey and Scarborough.

Coastguard staff raised concerns about the 50-year-old captain, who was later breathalised and found to be more than twice over the legal limit.

The man, who has not yet been named, is due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates Court on September 10.

Nobody was injured during Sunday's incident, and the undamaged boat was recovered safely at the next high tide.
