5ft fake cactus stolen from Ayr bar

WANTED – a 5ft cactus, dead or alive.

The signature symbol of Ayr’s only Wild West themed bar has been pinched from the pub’s front door.

Staff at Cactus Jaks on Miller Road were stunned when they turned up to work on Wednesday morning and discovered the cactus had been stolen from the front beer garden.

Manager Steven Muir explained: “It’s 5ft tall with a steel base – you can’t really miss it.

“The bar was closed for a bit of maintenance on Monday and Tuesday last week. Witnesses say they saw two men heading off up Miller Road in the direction of Burns Statue Square with the cactus at about 9am on Wednesday morning.

“They disappeared up a lane before they got to the top of the road. We’ve had a look but we can’t find anything.”

Steven continued: “It’s a crucial part of the establishment. It’s the first thing customers see when they come in. It’s an iconic image of Cactus Jaks.”
