Man now put on murder charge

A MAN charged with the culpable homicide of a woman in Ayr has now been charged with her murder.

Gavin Boyd, 49, was originally accused of the lesser charge after 20-year-old Vikki McGrand was found dead in a flat in Ayr last year.

But prosecutors have now increased it to murder.

Boyd has now also been charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

It is alleged that on August 26 last year at 15F Wellington Square, Ayr he assaulted Vikki by punching her in the face and knocking her to the floor.

Boyd is further accused of committing murder by tying a cable around her mouth, placing a pillow over her face, assaulting her in other ways unknown and killing her.

He is also accused getting taxis and trains to Oxenholm, Cumbria on the same date in the full knowledge he had murdered Vikki and that it would be investigated, in order to avoid detection and arrest.

Tragic Vikki’s body was found in the flat at around 8.30pm on Sunday, August 31.

Her boyfriend, who she lived with, was in prison at the time.

Boyd has been remanded in custody pending his trial.

He is expected to make an appearance at the High Court in Glasgow later this month.
