TWO of Ayrshire’s best known doctors cut the ribbon that marked theofficial opening of Ayrshire’s brand new children’s and maternity units.
The multi-million poundfacilities have been years in the planning and will provide state-of-the-art care for patients across the county.
Retired consultants John McClure and Nivon Russell were delighted to be invited to carry out the honours at the much anticipated event.
Dr McClure was a consultant paediatrician for more than 40 years at Seafield, Ayr, and more recently Crosshouse hospitals.
Dr Russell served as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist for 22 years in Ayrshire and was one of the first to promote midwifery-led care.
A dedication ceremony was held and guests enjoyed a slice of specially made cake to help celebrate the occasion.
The facilities at Crosshouse Hospital were built by Dawn Construction.
Director Eddie Robertson said: “It is marvellous to have played a part in creating a new facility which will bring new lives into the world for families across Ayrshire, including those of our own employees, for generations to come.
“Working closely in partnership with NHS we have developed our expertise in the healthcare sector through this valuable addition to Crosshouse.”
And Joanne Sharp, health care manager of children’s, women’s and sexual health services, added: “We would like to thank everyone involved in these two projects.
“These state-of-the-art facilities are enabling us to continue to provide first-class care for the mums, babies and children of Ayrshire and Arran.”
