Ayrshire villages set for new schools

TWO Ayrshire villages will get new schools, it was this week confirmed.

Patna and Colmonell are the villages where state-of-art buildings will go up.

East Ayrshire Council took the decision to build a new shared campus at Patna, with an estimated cost of over £8 million.

It will incorporate Patna Primary, St Xavier’s Primary, a nursery school, a supported learning centre, a community library, a replacement football pavilion and community centre.

The super new campus will be on a site adjacent to the existing Patna Primary.

And it is expected to be ready for August, 2011.

Councillor Drew Filson called the go-ahead ‘a bold and imaginative decision’.

* Meanwhile, South Ayrshire Council, will proceed with a £1.85 million small rural school in Colmonell.

Over £100,000 of this has already been spent on the demolition of the old building.

And the school is currently based in a temporary building on the village park.

Councillor Hywel Davies told colleagues the school roll is just 13 at the moment.

But this is expected to rise. An innovative design has already been received from Ayr architects ARP Lorimer, and the school could be ready by August 2010.
