IT’S set to be Ayr’s biggest charity gig in years.
And 10 top bands are booked for Jam at the Dam.
Drummer Brian McKinlay is the man behind the idea.
And he is determined to snare success for deserving causes.
Brian said: “We used to have great summer gigs in Ayr.
“I remember the Guinness picnics were very successful at Dam Park.
“And that’s the kind of summer Sunday atmosphere I’d love to experience again.”
Spirit Aerosystem worker Brian, 46, has pulled together an eclectic mix of bands.
And headliners will be Britain’s top David Bowie tribute, Tigers on Vaseline.
Brian said: “I’m thrilled they have agreed to come to Ayr.
“And I’m certain they’ll win a lot of new fans.
“But there’s many other crowd-pleasers on the bill – the cream of local talent.
“And it promises to be eight hours of great live music.”
Brian has booked the Dam Park Stadium for Sunday, August 2.
Gates open at noon, and there will be music from 1pm until 9pm.
Tickets are just £10 for the family, and there will be food outlets, face painting and beer tents.
The two charities who will benefit are Macmillan Cancer Support and the Ayrshire Hospice.
In addition to Tigers on Vaseline, the bands are: Progressive rockers Preacher; soul outfit The Floorstompers (featuring Deacon Blue keyboard man Jim Prime); exciting indie band Blackberry Jack; blues specialists The Rhymes (specially reformed after 15 years); glam rockers Electric Warrior; hard rockers The Penetrations; classic 60s rockers The Marauders; T Rex tribute Hot Love; and Burns Showcase winners Long Way Home.
