RESIDENTS of a Prestwick care home hit America next week as they embark on a virtual world cruise.
Bringing different destinations to life through food, music and dance, the ‘world tour’ makes its first port of call at New York.
Sampling waffles, American brownies and pecan pie, the Big Apple was chosen as first stop to celebrate Independence Day.
Staff at Shalimar Care Home organised the experience for those in care who are unable to go on holiday themselves this summer.
Over 300 Bupa care homes across the UK are joining the world cruise with each home being turned into a passenger cruise ship.
This July, stops on the tour will include South Africa, Australia, India and Ireland.
Shalimar Home manager Jennifer Campbell said: “Everyone deserves a holiday, and with so many of our residents unable to travel anymore we’re doing the next best thing.
“We’d love anyone who’s struggling to get away this year to join us.”
The residents will also mark the special occasion by hosting a line-dancing party on Wednesday, July 1 from 2pm.
