Newsagents fight is backed by MP

NEWSAGENTS have no choice of suppliers.

And the lack of competition means many are forced to pay massive costs and some are even having to shut up shop.

But MP Brian Donohoe has pledged to fight for their future.

Developments in the news distribution industry have left many traditional newsagents vulnerable to increased costs.

Last week, almost 800 newsagents delivered a petition to the Office of Fair Trading demanding urgent action to protect competition in the news distribution industry.

Mr Donohoe said: “It is shocking and unacceptable that so many newsagents face an uphill struggle to survive.

“Along with post offices, traditional newsagents form the backbone of our community.

“They deliver a vital service and are a friendly face that many people rely on every day.

“I am happy to pledge my support to newsagents in Ayrshire and across the UK.”
