Ayrshire pays tribute to armed forces

AYRSHIRE paid tribute to its armed forces with ceremonies across the county.

At Ayr’s County Buildings there was a flag raising ceremony to mark Armed Forces Day.

Serving personnel joined veterans and politicians in raising awareness of the service they provide for their country.

MPs Sandra Osborne and Brian Donohoe were among those who attended the ceremony.

They were also impressed with the services offered from the temporary military services advice and information shop in Ayr High Street.

Mrs Osborne said: “All those involved have asked me to spread the word about the work they do in supporting veterans and the families of serving members of the armed forces and encourage them to come forward.

“The RAF Association for example can help with both financial and practical support.

“For more information you can contact the RAFA honorary welfare officer on 0754 547 4320.”

And Mr Donohoe added: “I was impressed that representatives of local organisations like the Royal Air Force Association, SSAFA, Royal British Legion of Scotland and Combat Stress gave up their time voluntarily for a week to take part in this worthwhile venture.”
