BELMONT Academy pupils are rightly proud of their new school building.
So it’s little wonder they were happy to show visitors around during the official opening.
The new £24.8m school boasts some of the best teaching facilities in the country.
And as far as pupils are concerned, the much improved outdoor facilities are every bit as good.
The school was officially opened by Major Sir Richard Henderson.
He was delighted to be asked to do the honours.
He said: “I was very honoured to be invited to open such a magnificent new school.
“Education has a major influence on a young person’s life chances and we want South Ayrshire’s young people to experience their learning in the best educational facilities.
“The new Belmont Academy provides that.
“Schools are at the heart of our communities. This significant redevelopment offers wider benefits to the people of Ayr.”
The school’s symphony orchestra, concert band, string orchestra and the string quartet performed for guests along with solo vocal, clarsach, saxophone and flute performances.
Head teacher Alan Moir said: “From February 2007, all of us in the academy watched with increasing excitement and anticipation at our new school building rise on what had been our playing fields.
“Now we are in full occupancy and working in the 21st century.
“The old school held wonderful memories for generations of Ayr’s young people. But now we have a tremendous opportunity to build new traditions and experiences for our students in this state-of-the-art learning environment.”
