APPRENTICES from Ayr College dominated the podium at a national contest.
The carpentry and joinery contest ran the rule over students’ ability to construct signs.
The design was similar to those which stand outside guest houses, and was intended to test students on their hand skills.
Ayr College took first and third place, with Cumnock’s Scott Dickson the top man and Troon’s Adam Whyte in third.
Apprentices came from around Scotland to compete in the event, which was held at Ayr College for the first time.
Eric Cairney, director of construction at Ayr College, said: “Scott has worked incredibly hard throughout his time at Ayr College, and to win this competition is a fantastic achievement.
“This was a great opportunity for him to demonstrate his skills on a national stage and this accolade should give him the confidence to progress onto a long and successful joinery career.
“A competition of this kind is just one example of the hands-on industry training offered at Ayr College, which helps to prepare students for the challenges they will face in their future employment.”
