AFTER three generations in farming, an Ayrshire family are turning their hand to tourism.
John McIlwraith, his wife Carol and their three sons have bought Coyle Water Fishery just outside Coylton.
And the family are in the middle of a major revamp.
They hope that when it’s complete, the venture will pull scores of tourists to the area.
John explained: “We’ve already restocked the lochs with plenty of four and five pound fish.
“And we hope to have six luxury log cabins ready by next year – complete with hot tubs.”
The McIlwraiths bought the 30 acre site two years ago and have already built their own home on the site.
They are now concentrating on building the business.
And with the help of sons Ryan, 16, Blair, 15, and Ross, 13, John and Carol’s dream looks sure to become a reality.
John says the family are ready for a big change and want to try something completely different.
He said: “It’s a scary time but in the recession more and more people are holidaying at home so we want to take advantage of that.”
Coyle Water Fishery has two lochs, a bait pond stocking fish up to three pounds, and a fly only pond stocking blue trout, rainbow trout and brown trout.
It also has disabled toilets and a cafe snack bar.
John already has planning permission for six cabins and camping will also be a possibility.
