South Ayrshire roads in a shocking state

URGENT action must be taken to improve the shocking state of South Ayrshire’s roads.

So says MSP Cathy Jamieson.

She hit out this week after it was revealed that 14 per cent of cars are damaged by potholes every year in Ayrshire.

The study published by insurance company Warranty Direct revealed the massive number of claims made for axle or suspension damage in the area.

And the MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley revealed that she herself has fallen foul of the problem on the Crosshill to Minishant road.

She said: “This report simply highlights what every resident in Ayrshire knows already – that we have the worst roads in Scotland.

“I have lost count of the number of times I have contacted South Ayrshire Council demanding action on behalf of constituents.”

The Post revealed last week that residents in Straiton have launched a petition demanding the potholed B7045 between the village and Kirkmichael is repaired.

And Ms Jamieson insists that the current state of the roads poses a major safety risk for drivers.

She added: “Not only are people suffering damage to their vehicles, there is a serious public safety issue as drivers are often forced into the path of oncoming traffic in order to avoid the potholes.

“Hot on the heels of the Girvan pool and the budget cuts, the report card for South Ayrshire Council makes grim reading.

“Residents have a right to know when their roads will be repaired.

“That is why I have asked South Ayrshire Council to publish a repair action plan so the public know when action will be taken.”
