Leading neuroscientist takes up job in Ayr

A LEADING world neuroscientist is taking up a post at an Ayr university.

Professor Roddy Williamson is heading to the University of the West of Scotland.

He’ll become their Dean of science and technology.

The professor currently leads one of the world’s top centres of marine science education and research in Plymouth.

A key aim of the post will see Professor Williamson building a national and international reputation for the faculty.

Prof Williamson revealed: “It is an extremely exciting time in the development of the university and I am delighted to have been appointed Dean of science and technology.

“It is essential that the university continues to drive forward its provision of high-quality, inclusive higher education and innovative applied research to enable it to have a transformational influence on the economic, social and cultural development of the west of Scotland.

“I look forward to working with colleagues in the faculty of science and technology to ensure UWS continues to deliver in these areas.”

Professor Seamus McDaid, principal and vice chancellor of UWS, added: “I look forward to welcoming Roddy to the university and to working with him.

“This high-profile appointment illustrates the university’s ambitious strategic development plans.

“As Dean of the faculty of science and technology, Roddy will have full responsibility for the leadership, governance and management of the faculty.”
