Cash boost to help Ayrshire mums

MUMS-TO-BE in Ayrshire are set to receive a cash boost.

From this month, pregnant women will be given a tax free payment by the government when they are at least 25 weeks pregnant.

The Health in Pregnancy Grant will be a one-off payment of £190 for each pregnancy.

The payment won’t affect tax credits or other benefits and every mum will get the money paid directly into their bank account.

Sandra Osborne MP has welcomed the news.

She said: “I am pleased that this payment has been introduced to cover the extra costs incurred in having a baby, particularly in the current economic climate.”
