Students' car has be towed from Ayr beach

A DAY at the seaside proved expensive for a group of students this week.

Three Chinese finance students came to Ayr from Glasgow in a hired car and got it stuck on the beach.

Police and Coastguard were called to the scene on Monday afternoon.

But the trio had to call the hire company to pull the one-year-old Saab out of the sand.

And they were charged £700 for the trouble.

Ronnie Younger from the Coastguard says this should be a lesson to others.

He said: “In this case, they were trapped on very soft sand above the high water mark so there was no threat to life if the tide came in.

“There are signs at the beach saying that vehicles are not allowed on the sand. The beach is not suitable for cars, even our off road 4x4 cars can struggle in the sand at times.”
