Police target Ayr town centre

MOUNTED police took to the streets of Ayr this week in a bid to crack down on crime.

They joined community cops on the beat in the town centre as part of the ongoing campaign to root out crooks.

Superintendent John Hazlett insists that the high visibility patrols will help reassure shoppers that Ayr is a safe place to visit.

He said: “These additional officers from the mounted branch, working along with PC Stuart Gray from the Ayr West community policing team, are engaged in high visibility patrols.

“The small number of people who are prepared to engage in criminality in the town centre will be the subject of enforcement activity.

“However, the patrols by mounted branch officers and community policing team officers are firmly aimed at increasing public reassurance.

“Working alongside the recently appointed dedicated town centre police officer, the presence of mounted branch officers is a continued commitment to policing in this area.”
