IMPROVEMENTS to the A77 should be a priority for the Scottish Government.
So says MSP Cathy Jamieson.
For she hit out after transport minister Stewart Stevenson revealed that they won’t be considered until at least 2012.
The MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley said: “This is another clear example that Ayrshire’s transport challenges are not a priority for the SNP Government.
“Yet another set of improvements have been relegated to a later date, in this case 2012.
“This is as much a matter of safety for the people of the community as it is a matter of helping local businesses to grow. Investment and action is needed now.”
Mr Stevenson’s explanation was in response to a question from Ms Jamieson in the Scottish Parliament.
She insists that it’s simply not good enough.
She added: “This is simply unacceptable and I will continue my campaign to make sure these critical improvements to the A77 are carried out as soon as possible for the benefit of the community.
“The question now is if any improvements will take place in the SNP Government’s term in office, or if everything will just be put off to a later date?”
