NATASHA McCroskie of Ayr Academy is the recipient of the first Friends of the Maclaurin Jack Kilgour Award for Excellence in Senior Art and Design.
As the winning pupil she receives a beautiful engraved medal and a cheque for £100.
Nan Kilgour presented Jean Climie, principal teacher of art and design at Ayr Academy, with the striking agate trophy and a £100 cheque for the art department, at a well-attended reception at the galleries.
At the presentation Patron Helen M. Turner paid tribute to Jack’s great enthusiasm and energy, not only in his role vice-chair of the Friends but as an inspiring teacher and mentor. For many years Jack was principal teacher of art and design at Belmont Academy, he did, however, begin his teaching career at Ayr Academy and was in fact a former pupil of the academy.
It was also an evening to remember for another artist, Straiton‘s James Fullarton who treated a packed hall in Alloway to a most enjoyable and enlightening portrait painting demonstration.
