RESIDENTS in South Ayrshire are tops when it comes to recyling.
Figures show that 43.2 per cent of waste is recycled or composted.
And that rate has drawn praise from politicians and councillors alike.
The SNP’s environment spokesman Stan Fisher said: “This is a tremendous figure, which even the Scottish Government’s Environment Secretary, Richard Lochhead has commented upon.
“It is clear that the residents of South Ayrshire are willing to play their part in achieving a greener Scotland, but we should not be resting on our laurels as the Scottish Government has set an ambitious target of recycling 70 per cent of municipal waste by 2025, so we still have some way to go and we will all have to play our part.
“One way residents can play their part is to continue to recycle and to try and cut down on waste wherever possible, whether that is doing simple things like cutting down on food waste or opting out of receiving unsolicited mail; more information for these simple steps to help reduce waste can be found at www.wasteawarescotland.org.uk”
