Dalrymple inn set to re-open

A VILLAGE inn is about to re-open after being boarded up for four months.

New tenants at the Kirkton Inn in Dalrymple aim to have the public bar open on March 12.

And they hope to have the restaurant and hotel opened shortly afterwards.

Joyce Hislop and Vicki Fairfoull are partners in the new venture.

And they want to bring the famous old inn back to its former glory.

Vicki said: “We will soon be letting everyone know about our plans for the restaurant, and who the chef will be.

“But first we will get the public bar operating again.”

Vicki believes an eye-catching fixture in the public bar is being kept for safekeeping by someone in the village.

It’s large trout in a glass case, that once had pride-of-place in the pub.

Vicki said: “I understand it may be the largest bull trout ever caught on the Doon.

“And we would love to have back, for everyone to admire again.”

Vicki believes the trout is being kept for genuine reasons.

For many people in the village feared the Kirkton might not re-open, and could have been re-developed as flats.

Happily that is not the case, and the 130-year-old hotel will soon be back in business.
