Dalmilling golfers will swing into action

FURIOUS golfers are ready to launch their own attack on the council.

Dalmilling members have submitted 32 questions to South Ayrshire chief executive David Anderson.

And they want answers.

The club are raging that council leader Hugh Hunter has stayed silent on his reasons for shutting the course.

They believe the land is already earmarked for future use – and want to know why there’s a cover-up.

Ladies’ captain Jackie Ridge admitted: “We’re being kept in the dark and this is nothing but a closet council.

“We’re having to go by what we read in the newspaper and you have to wonder why they’re being so secretive.

“We’ve submitted 32 questions.

“The main two that we need answered are why is a successful and well-used course being closed in the first place – and what are the council planning to do with it?”

More than 500 golfers joined Saturday’s protest march and they could now stage their own march in coming weeks.

Jackie added: “It sent a very strong message to the council about the depth of feelings against the actions.

“Ayrshire Dalmilling Action Group intends to fight hard to ensure that this beautiful course remains open to serve the needs of the community for both golf and green belt amenity, for which it is designated in the council’s own local plan.”
